Day 12: Something People Never Seem to Complement You On.

I have beautiful, big, brown, expressive eves. My eyes are easily my own favorite part of my face (can't say what other peoples fav part is). But behind glasses and a thick veil of messy hair, my eyes get missed.

Update: Family Health

To understand what I'll be addressing in this post, read this post. I'll wait.

All caught up? Ok, lets go.

So, since that, I'm sad to say that things have not gotten better with my uncle. He and my Grandma are constantly fighting and not speaking. Just as soon as they start to talk again, they fight again. And the fights spread to Momma. She is constantly being put in the middle of a situation that is hundreds of miles away and hears two very different accounts of what is happening. So, with my stubborn Uncle trapped in the anger/denial phase, our contact with him has become very limited. When Momma talks to him it just upsets her, so they don't talk very much lately.

But things are a tad brighter for Aunt A. She had a total hysterectomy and had a LARGE tumor removed from her abdomen. After that surgery, she began chemo right away. I'm not sure how treatments are going yet, she's only been going for two weeks. But in the time that all this has been going on, her lungs have been fulling back up with fluid. That is probably a bad sign and could point to the cancer perhaps growing somewhere else. Aunt A hasn't brought it up, so Momma doesn't ask.

I've mentioned this before, but my faith is really important to me. My family, my church, and many of my friends are all praying for my aunt, uncle, and Momma. My uncle is still resistant, he doesn't want people praying for him. I'm not sure if he'd go so far as to blame God yet, but I also wouldn't put it past him. But Aunt A, oh WOW. She has gone from totally running from God to appreciating all the prayers we've heaped on her. People from our church who she's never met have been sending her cards and messages. Our pastor and his wife have visited her, she later told Momma that they were the only pastors she'd want to see and pray with. Once she's better she has told Momma she wants to come to church and thank everyone for their kindness and prayers. :)

So, I guess the moral of this story is: Sometimes things change. Sometimes things stay the same. And sometimes we get a miracle.

Day 11: Something People Seem to Compliment You the Most On.

NO, not for my resemblance to dogs!
I'd probably go with listening for this one, I honestly enjoy listening to people and trying to help them. When my friends are hurting there isn't much that I can often do for them. I'm not physically imposing, I don't have the funds to fly across the country at the drop of a hat, and I can't leap tall buildings in a single bound (well..not EVERY day). So I just listen and let people vent and rage and decompress. It's what I'm good at. Even when I'm caught up in all my own dramaz and pain, sometimes the best thing to listen to someone who needs a friendly ear. :)

So if you need me, just talk. I'm listening.

Day 10: Someone You Need to Let Go of, or Wish You Didn't Know

Maybe for this one, the person I need to let go of, is me. Who I used to be. I need to let go of my old assumptions and my judgmental attitude.

Aw heck no. I've always been awesome yo

Movie Review #2

Because who thought that HAIR could be a main character?!
Ah Disney, you might be putting sublimitle messages in your movies. You might have a history of racism in your films from one degree to another.
But darn it, you do know how to make amazing movies! That being said, if you ever make a sequel/prequel/in-between-quel to this treasure, our relationship will be OVER.
I saw this twice in theaters. That's right, this was SO GOOD, I paid to see it. TWICE. And I'm a broke college student!

Day 9: Someone You Didn’t Want To Let Go, but Just Drifted

Friendship is such a weird thing. We take it for granted that our best friends will always be our best friends.  Nothing could ever separate us from our friends, not no way not no how. And, while it would be totally awesome if that was the truth, it's not.

We'll call this girl 'Sarah'. Not cause that's her name, duh, but cause it makes the penguin thing make sense. Sarah was cool, a bit uptight about....everything, but cool. We were both from big families and could totally understand what most people can't. We both liked CSI, we both had kinda screwy senses of humor. To top it off, our Dads had been friends in high school and her Dad coached/lead a kinda football team that Army Brother was on. It seemed we were destined to be best friend For Ever And Always.

But then came....She Who Must Not Be Named.

It was my friend Sarah that introduced her to my younger brother. Her whole family knew that this girl had some SERIOUS issues, and that my brother was likewise headed for some SERIOUS issues, but she still introduced them. As their whole toxic relationship came to light, Sarah made it her goal to break them up and to make sure I knew how evil and sinful this girl was. Oy vey.

Even then I understood that her heart was in the right place, but Sarah had never had to deal with a rebellious sibling, all her sisters were, well, rather saintly. Her overbearing rudeness and constantly pumping me for info on them and filling my head with tales of this girls vicious evil was not what I needed right then. This dragged on for years until eventually I just got tired of being mad. Sarah and I began to drift.

It wasn't until I stopped attending the same college ministry that she went to that I realized how far appart we now were. She is a lovely person, her heart is often in the right place, but in getting to that place, she tripped over her own good intentions and bungled it all up. I didn't need a friend to make me mad at my brother's girlfriend, I needed someone to distract me. I needed someone to cheer me up and make me laugh. Now on the few occasions that she texts me or we see each other, I am more wary. I can't help but think that she is still prying into the mess of a relationship and picking at old wounds. Sometimes I wonder how she's doing, and I miss how close we were, but with things being as they are with Little Brother, perhaps distance is the best thing for us.

This was actually supposed to be a brief entry. Woops!

Computer and Life Woes

Hey-o! Sorry I did my vanishing act again, my computer has been liming along for months and Dad is still in the process of patching it up. My CD drive only reads discs like 30% of the time, and its slower then a blind turtle crawling backwards through molasses*.  Maybe if I know how to properly care for and maintain the device, it wouldn't be so bad, but it is a three year old kinda cheap laptop. I keep saying that once I get a REAL job I'll treat myself to a tripped out new desktop. Someday...

In addition to that fun, spring semester has started! Woo hoo! And let me tell you, even though it's only hte third day of class, I'm already learning a lot! So far I have learned: Ten AM is waaay too late to get a good parking spot, I love Canadians but haven't cared for either of my Canadian professors, I wasn't the only one who HATED Jewish Lit last semester (THANK GOD!), and that beards really do look dumb on college boys. I'll keep you updated on how the semester progresses. Hopefully it will be better then the last one!

*I actually timed the two, my computer vs a blind turtle crawling backwards through molasses. The turtle totally outstripped my computer. Pathetic.
